Kanahi Yamashita, born in Nagasaki/Japan in 1997, has been performing with the „Kazuhito Yamashita Family Quintet in the USA, Europe and in Asia since her early childhood. From 2007 to 2008 two CDs, „Kasane“ und „Little Henny Penny“ were released and on the second one she  performs as a singer. At the age of 13 she gave her solo debut. She has also performed in a duo with her father worldwide at major international festivals such as Cordova, Benicasim (Spain), Uppsala (Sweden) and Santo Tirso (Portugal). The repertoire of this Duo did not only contain original pieces, but also transcriptions by her father such as „Scheherazade“ by Rimsky-Korsakov. In 2015, under the baton of Alexander Praia, she played a double concerto for two guitars and orchestra by Castelnuovo-Tedesco with her father and with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2015 Kanahi has been living in Berlin and she regularly plays solo and chamber music concerts at many different venues, among other the main hall of the Konzerthaus Berlin. As a soloist she was invited to international festivals such as AKBANK Sanat Guitar Festival in Istanbul 2018, Berliner Gitarrenfestival 2018 and Darmstädter Gitarrentage 2019. In addition to performing the works of renowned composers, she also composes and plays her own pieces and one of her works, “ Variation and Fantasia on ’Star of the County Down’ ”, was published in 2015.

She currently studies with Prof. Thomas Müller-Pering for her guitar degree as well as vocal music pedagogy at the University of the Arts Berlin. From 2016 she was a scholarship student with the Yamaha Music Foundation for three years and since 2020 she gets a scholarship from Rohm Music Foundation. She was a semi-finalist of the 66th ARD International Music Competition (2017) in Munich. In 2019 she won the „German Guitar prize 2019“ in Darmstadt. She also won the 1st prize at the VNC Competition 2019 and the Silver medal – Strings Virtuoso at the 3rd Berliner International Competition in 2019.
